things I hear

Last night:

Having a conversation with a friend about how I went to Gay Pride! a few weeks ago and didn't get hit on.

waitress steps in and says
" can i just say something? I, myself, am not a lesbian, but I played rugby with a few for many years. I'd just like to point out that if i was a lesbian, I would totally hit on you, but I also must say you are giving off incredibly straight vibes. there is no doubt about it. straight vibes"

exit waitress.

Joanne to her friend. " and Barry says I am too girly, I am not girly!"

Friend. " you just put on lip gloss"

joanne " oh"

wrapping up evening and start walking to the car.

enter homeless guy
" hey lady..."

I interrupt "Hey guys, do you want some bottles? Cuz I have a bunk load in the back of my car"

hobo # 1 "You serious? you have bottles we can have?"

"Sure" I say, come on.

Walking to the car with my friend and my two new homeless friends.

Hobo #1 "Lady, do you know that you look like Kirsten Dunst?"

Hobo #2 "Yea, you are like the Kirsten Dunst goddess of bottles."

hobo # 1 " haha yea man. bottle goddess."

I stop before i get close to the car and turn to them, they both look a bit scared, like suddenly i have changed my mind.

"One condition guys, one condition. there are a couple of milk jugs in there that you are going to have to make sure they get recycled. Karma is a bitch and you have to live on this planet too. So promise me you'll not leave the milk jugs on the street...."

they both look at me like I have said something profound.

Hobo # 2 " we do live on this planet"

Hobo #1 " haha but i am out of here soon man!"

Friend " to k-pax I bet"

Hobo #1 " you know about k-pax?"

They take a seat on the grass by my trunk as my friend and I start unloading bottle on to the grass. I can hear the two guys bickering happily between them like they have been friends for years. we'll have t find somewhere to stash these until morning man! yea, i know a good place. oh yea, i knew you would, oh look she has more. yea more...

they keep echoing each others words.

I had over a full can of Fresca.

Hobo # 2 " oh look a fresca!"

I pass a can of Gingerale and say " here's a gingerale"

Hobo #1 pipes up " I'll have the gingerale!"
Hobo #2 " you don't like fresca?"

I smirk and keep passing over the cans, and bottles.

I see that I have a couple of beer left in the car, full ones. I look at the guys, they've probably not had any lucky breaks for a while.

I take out 2 cans and close the trunk.
"here boys. here is a few more cans, but these 2 are full, you'll have to drink them before you take them in."

they look at me in awe. both of them happy like pigs in shit.

Hobo # 1 gives me a big hug. " Thanks Kirsten" then he hugs my friend.

we get in the car and roll the windows down,

" Don't forget about the milk jugs!!" i say as I begin to pull out,

in the back ground I can tell they didn't even hear me,

all I hear is hobo # 1 say.. "look at how many bottles we have!"

hobo # 2 retorts, " yea but you got 2 hugs too!"

the bickering begins. I pulled away from the curb.

I love moments like this, connecting to other humans, even if for a brief moment.
